Santa Monica’s shooting injury officer, seek suspicious in progress: Police

A human hunt is undergoing a shooting that wounded a police officer in Santa Monica, California, authorities said.

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon near Santa Mónica Place, an outdoor shopping center in Los Angeles County, police said.

An officer acknowledged the suspect of a bulletin searched for an alleged separate crime, according to the spokesman for the Santa Monica Police Department, Lieutenant Lewis Gilmour.

“When the officer approached that individual to make contact, the individual produced a gun and shot one of our officers,” Gilmour said.

The suspect fled the scene, according to Gilmour, who did not launch the name of the suspect or the details about the Wtedhed Bulletin.

“The suspect remains in general, and a coordinated search is underway,” said Santa Monica Police Department in a statement.

Police launched a photo of the suspect while asking anyone to recognize him or see him immediately call 911. It is still believed that he is armed and dangerous, Gilmour said.

The officer suffered an injury that is not deadly and was transported to a hospital in the area for medical care, where he remains in a stable condition, Gilmour said.

Santa Monica Place has been clear, and a great police presence remains in the area, the department said.

“This is still an evolutionary situation,” said Santa Monica Police Department. “We appreciate the patience and cooperation of the community while we work to guarantee the safety of all involved.”

Santa Monica Place is located in the center of Santa Monica, near the 3rd Street promenade.
